Disney Cruises Lines
Disney Cruise Line has been involved in the cruise industry since 1999, when
they desired to create an honest-to-goodness family cruise experience. They were an innovator in this regard,
as prior to that time most cruise lines were centered on the experience of adults on board. By entering the
market with a family-friendly focus, Disney Cruise Lines has initiated a new era in the industry.
Disney cruise lines offers one of the most unique cruise experiences afloat and have introduced a number of
innovations. Chief among them are its cabins with a bath-and-a-half and a rotating dining room schedule in which
passengers eat at three different restaurants, albeit with the same tablemates and wait staff. It was the first
cruise line to launch the "soda card" concept, an idea which has been picked up by competitors, and now they've
even gone one better, offering soda gratis in the three restaurants and at the self-service beverage station on the
pool deck.
The 1,754-passenger Disney Magic and Disney Wonder are sister ships and carry the same basic themes throughout
-- with different individual touches along the way. Disney Magic, for instance, has an Art Deco theme while Disney
Wonder is more Art Nouveau.
In 2011, Disney will introduce its first new-build since Disney Wonder launched in 1999: the 128,000-ton,
2,500-passenger Disney Dream will debut on January 26, 2011. A sister ship, Disney Fantasy, will debut in April
2012.
These ships are family-friendly, offering the elaborate Walt Disney Theater, which resembles a plush Broadway
house, and the Buena Vista Cinema, which features Disney Corp. flicks. Studio Sea is styled like a television sound
stage and offers a forum for G-rated floor shows.
Of the three members in the Disney fleet, the 'Disney Wonder' cruise ship sees the biggest variation in both
temperature and scenic locale. It travels down to the Mexican Riviera for one of its most popular voyages (during
the Christmas vacation period) and all the way up to Alaska for another. Like her sister-ship the Disney Magic, the
Disney Wonder contains ten massive decks, has a total length of 964 feet and is 106 feet wide. It weights about
83,000 tons. Crew members are on call 24/7 to cater to the guests' needs. Disney Cruise Lines was the first (and
only) to have animated characters who are the Godmothers of each ship.
The Walt Disney Cruise Line ships all offer some of the best things that you'd expect from any cruise ship as
well. Of course you'll tour some of the world's most beautiful seas - you can choose from a variety of attractive
destinations. You'll also enjoy an all-inclusive vacation complete with excellent dining, shows, activities, pools,
and more. And don't worry, every Disney ship offers some "adults-only" areas that you can escape to when
necessary.
As mentioned above, Walt Disney Cruise Line offers departures from several ports of call. Options include the
Mexican Riviera, Hawaii, Alaska, and the Mediterranean. And like most large cruise lines, Disney offers a tour of
the Caribbean and another to Bahamas.
The latter two are among the most popular, largely because they include a stop at Disney's private Bahaman
island, Castaway Cay. This idyllic paradise is just what you might expect of a perfect private island. You'll
beautiful verdant forests with lush foliage, bordering on miles of immaculate beaches and ending at the
crystal-clear oceanfront. And just like the ships that visit the Cay, this island has several areas designated for
different age groups including families-only, teens, and adults.
