Mediterranean Language

Language spoken on a Mediterranean Cruise

With the diversity of cruise ship passengers and the different ports of call in various countries, there are a number of languages one might encounter when on a Mediterranean cruise. The first language onboard the cruise liners of companies such as Royal Caribbean International, World’s Leading Cruise Lines and Disney Cruise Line  is English, with the exception of MSC Cruises, Silversea Cruises, AIDA Cruises and Costa Cruises.

The first language onboard MSC Cruises, Silversea Cruises and Costa Cruises is Italian but they cater to many different nationalities. Four other languages, Spanish, French, English and German are also spoken simultaneously onboard liners sailing under the MSC Cruises and Costa Cruises brand. The primary language spoken on AIDA Cruises is German with English, along with other languages, being catered to. One can also expect to hear some Norwegian onboard a vessel from Fred.Olsen Cruise Lines.

Although the main language, spoken onboard the other cruise ships, is English, they still cater to speakers of other languages and popular secondary languages include Spanish and French. Due to the many languages spoken within the Mediterranean and the diversity of their passengers one can always expect to find help onboard from staff who usually have an understanding of more than one language.
