Will I need a passport or visa for my Mediterranean cruise?
Documents Required for Mediterranean Cruise
It is the responsiblity of each traveller to learn of the documentation requirements for their cruise. Passports
requirement for visitors to countries within the Mediterranean is dependent on their nationality but before one can
embark on their cruise they must first produce valid identification. However, passengers are strongly urged to
bring along their passports when they are going to sail the Mediterranean. A visa is also required, for some
nationals, for entry intro certain countries. Citizens of the United States of America are exempt from such visa
restrictions but prospective travellers should enquire with their respective immigration departments to see if they
must obtain a visa for entry to specific countries that will be on their itinerary.
In the event that one must obtain individual visas for entry into each country on one’s itinerary then it would
be ideal to obtain a Schengen Visa. The Schengen Visa is a visitor’s visa that allows entry to each of the 25
countries covered under the Schengen Agreement, eliminating the problem of having to obtain multiple visas.
Legal guardians who are travelling with minors with a different last name are required to have the passport,
visa (if required) and birth certificate of the minor. If a minor is travelling with an Adult, who is not their
legal guardian then, then the adult is required to present the minors birth certificate, visa (if required),
passport and a notarized letter signed by at least one parent. The notarized letter must grant authority to the
adult, traveling with the minor, to take the child on the specific cruise.
